About the Firm

In early 2007 Architect Evangelista set up Studio Evangelista, a professional firm for Architecture and Urban Design. His staff is composed of handpicked former students and his engineering consultants are mostly fellow graduates of U.P. The firm began with designing several residential units but has since worked on schools, commercial buildings, offices, and urban design projects.

Alex Evangelista's favorite works all share such common features as open plans, straightforward circulation patterns, multi-levels, clean facades, fine grains and textures, and a simple mix of contrasting colors. On a larger scale his urban design concepts focus on open spaces, mixed uses, and designing for the pedestrian experience.

Despite this, he refuses to label his work as falling into any particular style, rationalizing that a design is a collaborative effort of the architect and his staff, consultants, contractors, and owners, dependent on the land and neighborhood environment, and often controlled by various outside factors, so that the finished product will always be unique to its own situation. His fundamental objective is client satisfaction, and this therefore, is the firm's specialty.

About the Principal Architect

Alex Evangelista, principal architect of Studio Evangelista, has been a practicing architect for more than 12 years, the same number of years he's been teaching at the U.P. College of Architecture in Diliman. He is also a partner at CDEP (Center for the Designed Environment Professions), a seminar and review center.

He started his training as a draftsman in Luis and Associates and earned his professional license in 1995. After completing Masteral Studies in Urban Design at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte, USA, he explored his professional options in the construction industry. He helped set up AEFD (Abiog, Evangelista, Fresnoza, David) Architects with his college buddies, and served as Architectural Consultant at Accura Construction before he decided to venture out on his own. In the meantime, he had begun teaching at U.P. while taking his second masters program at the School of Urban and Regional Planning.

Working from his home office he designed several houses, commercial centers, school buildings, and industrial facilities, and did acoustical consultancy work. He also teamed up with colleagues from the UPCA faculty to work on several planning and urban design projects.
